Welcome
to Horizon’s School of Kreativity, Innovation and
Excellence (SKIE) at the Auburn Learning Center

Let me be the first to welcome you to the Auburn Learning Center - School of Kreativity, Innovation and Excellence (SKIE: pronounced “sky”). The Auburn Learning Center began in 2005 as an enrichment center for Horizon students to supplement their home studies. That was then, but now we have an enrollment of approximately 250 students covering grades K-12. SKIE students in grades 9-12 attend core academic classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The 7th and 8th grade students attend core academic classes on Mondays and Wednesdays.  On Fridays, we offer grades 7-12 elective classes and K-6 enrichment classes, all at the SKIE site.

Students in grades 7-12th can choose to become part of the Co-Op. Students joining the Co-Op are allowed to take up to four core classes and two elective classes. Co-Op students are given first priority registration for classes and the class text books are provided. The Co-Op is a wonderful way to ensure your child’s instructional funds provide the greatest return. Please speak with your Supervising Teacher (ST) or me for further information on this new program.

The Auburn site has prided itself on offering innovative classes to further creativity and academic proficiency. Not only are our teachers highly qualified and dedicated to their profession, but they also desire our students to enjoy the learning process. The commitment of our instructors to reach across the curriculum and collaborate with one another in project and work-based learning gives students the opportunity to grasp concepts through multiple pathways.

For students wanting a creative outlet for their gifts and talents, we have an exceptional staff in the area of Visual and Performing Arts. Whether your child wishes to explore music, art, dance, drama, photography or graphic arts, or continue to develop his/her talents, SKIE will give students an opportunity for “hands-on” experience in the arts, as well as participation in public performance and gallery exhibits.

As our name implies, we are dedicated to making our site the School of Kreativity, Innovation and Excellence. We are thrilled to have you and your child share in the adventure of learning.

Sincerely,
Maria Blix
